Philippines trip

It's been a good 6 months since my last post. My laid-back beach life in Kuantan and traveling around has slowed down, and I moved to Kuala Lumpur in November to work as an educational advisor with EducationUSA. Milo loves the city and I do too!

A week ago I had the chance to travel to the Philippines for a friend's wedding. I met Nicolas last year in Kuantan. He is French and was one of the few expats in Kuantan that Holly, Owen, and I became good friends with. He started dating Glaiza, a Philippino singer in the Hyatt band (where we always went on the weekends) and they got married in the Philippines last week. I spent about a day and a half in Manila (which I don't have many good things to say about, sorry Manila). Then we went to Paete, Glaiza's village, which was beautiful and overlooked a lake. Then we traveled down to the beach where the wedding was. We took jeepneys everywhere we went, you will see what they are in my pictures. A few of us even got to ride on the roof which was a lot of fun, but maybe a little dangerous :)

Owen and I attended the wedding along with Nicolas' family and a few of his friends. Glaiza's family was there as well and it was a blast! Enjoy the pictures. My next stop is Myanmar in June for 8 days!

Day 290

There was a farewell ceremony held on Friday, October 19th to say goodbye to me and the 4 student teachers at my school. My drama students performed a play, a student spoke, I gave a farewell speech, and the student teachers and I all sang a Malay song. I put together a few clips from the assembly--enjoy!

The good news - computer is up and running!!!

The bad news - This is my last full week of teaching :( I'm also very behind in typing up final reports and such, so I've been so busy trying to tie up lose ends.

Dear lovely Miss Lauren Parson,

“Yo, what’s up?” This is the first thing I learnt from you when you first came to our school in Malaysia, SMK Teluk Chempedak. I’m quite sure you will remember me. This will be the last time I wrote letter to you.
I was so sad when I heard that Miss Lauren is going back to Maryland, United States of America. Time flies. I still remember you first came to our school on March. That’s when I heard you say “yo what’s up?” I always pay attention whenever you conducted activities.
I love the way you teach us…or…maybe it’s play. I always saw you joking, laughing, cheering, and playing. You look beautiful and lovely whenever you play with us. I love to play with you, Miss Lauren. Vidya says you are gorgeous after 10 years although you are in 30’s, maybe. I agree of that too.
I am very sad now. Hope that you won’t go back. No, sorry, it’s hope that you will come back to visit us. Till next time, bye.

  --------------------------------

Dear Miss Lauren,

Hi teacher I hope you are in pink of health. I am Kong from 2M at SMK Teluk Chempedak. I will miss you after you leave Malaysia.
When you started to teach me I fell like I was the happiest people to get a teacher like you. I can play inside the classroom when you came in because you always have plan to do every week.
In all this year, I have learn English but you teaches me in a fun way that I can improve my grammar. You even bring your family and friends to the classroom. I learn that we must be quiet when we play game because Mr. Vijay is always teaching other subject in next class. (He is the discipline teacher at school and the kids are terrified of him)
I had a blast with teacher as teacher took us our to English camp. I have never enter a English camp before teacher came. Malaysia and America are very far but I hope we could met again, or we can chat using Facebook.
I am going to miss your curly hair, fair skin, beautiful face when you are back to America.

PS- If you buy all the apple project in Malaysia do not upgrade version in America because it will lock all the system.

   --------------------------------

Dear Ms. Lauren,
This may be the last time we see each other again. Due to the recent events, which is our end-year examination. If we ever did anything wrong or ever said something that offended you, please forgive us.
Teacher, please don’t go away! We love English classes which was always had been taught by you. You are a light in a dark room, a penny in our wallets, and a sunflower in a rose garden. You have been teaching us for about 6 or 7 months, if we are not able to understand you, or we ever get you in trouble, forgive us.
SMK TC will be a boring and dull place without a light here. Everytime you enter our class, happiness and jokes fly around except the day when we were ratted out by Mr. Vijay. The lessons about America, the jokes about us all, the films you showed us have all been a valuable memory to us.
I will miss your curly hair, your fair skin, and your gorgeous smile, face, and everything about you. I miss you teacher.

   --------------------------------

Dear Miss Lauren,
I love English class so much! Because I can see you at the moment. My favorite thing that you do is playing games with us. It can improve our English skills and having fun. I love it!
Miss Lauren, I like your watch so much!! It is damn nice! In addition, the sunglass that you wear I think it is suitable for you, just for you!
One thing I learned from you is even though the sun aren’t shine, we can also wear a sunglass as you!
Miss Lauren, you are the only one teacher I love and respect. I will not going to forget you, Miss Lauren.
Thanks for sharing your life and knowledge for us. Thanks for teaching me to shuffle.

PS – I like your height too, you are tall!

  --------------------------------

Dear Miss Lauren,
I love the way you teach me English since you got here in Malaysia. You always make me laugh and giggles. I think in ten years, you’ll be a successful woman in America.
I want to thank you because you teach me drama and teached me English. I can speak better in English and I also learned how to act in front of people.
After school, I want to go to the University of Herpatology in Towson to learn about reptile and amphibian. My idol is Dr. Brady Barr.
We all love you Miss Lauren.

Day 275

Dr. Zakir Naik is a famous Islamic scholar who came to give a lecture in Kuantan. As soon as we walked in we were suddenly VIPs and ushered to the front row of the auditorium.
